Backyard Designs - Make Your Backyard A Personal Haven Of Serene Spaces
The number of ways you can transform your backyard is mind-boggling. All you need is some patience, planning and perseverance to transform your backyard into beautiful space for rest and relaxation. Create a serene and calm outdoor area far from the noises of busy city life, a place close to nature and its many splendors. Here are a few ideas to try out.
WILD-FLOWER GARDEN
Consider transforming your backyard into a wild-flower garden. Once in a while as we are traveling at high speed down a busy road we suddenly come upon whole meadows carpeted by wild flowers. The breathtaking scene remains etched in our memories. Now, you can bring nature closer home by creating your own natural wild-flower backyard garden.
Go on long tramps in the woods, collecting material and plants to fix up your own wild garden. When recreating the wild flower garden try imitating Nature herself. As you choose certain flowers from the woods, make note of the soil conditions, the place and the area around, what other plants are there, what about the amount of sunlight the plants are getting and so on. If you find two types of flowers growing together, then place them so in your new garden. Make the wild flowers feel like their old home in the wild. Wild flowers ought to be transplanted after blossoming time is over. Take a trowel and a basket into the woods with you. As you take up a few plants, make sure to take it with the roots and the soil, which must be packed about it when replanted for the best results.
WATER GARDEN
A water garden is attractive to all kinds of wildlife. With a water garden in your backyard you are inviting nature's most beautiful creatures from beautiful multi-colored butterflies to all kinds of frogs and several other insects into your surroundings. Your environment suddenly becomes richer with the birds and insects making it their home. Add some fish to your backyard pool and you can spend countless hours gazing at the wonderful flora and fauna in your backyard. There can be nothing more relaxing than such serene settings.
Beautiful insects like dragon flies are likely to be drawn to your water garden. In addition to dragonflies, a host of butterflies will come to drink the cool, clean moving water. With the water attracting so many insects the birds will not be far behind. Beautiful birds would come looking for insects to feast on. New and exotic birds of your area will make your water garden their hunting grounds.
SCENTED PATHWAYS
Creating a garden path or walkway which is filled with wonderful scents is fairly easy to do. Plant small scented flowers and herbs between your walkway stones. If you have a walkway or path in place already, or you plan to create one soon, one of the easiest things to do is add flowers and herbs which will release their scent each time someone walks the path.
Planting lavender between your pathway stones for instance, will provide beauty as well as scent. As you walk down your lavender garden path, feet will brush up against or crush some of the lavender, releasing beautiful scents for you to inhale and enjoy. Other plants that are either low growing herbs or flowers with strong smell include sage, lemongrass and rosemary among many others.
Plant bushes or flowers along either side of your walkway. Jasmine, Night Queen, Roses are some of sweet smelling bushes and shrubs can be planted along the edges of your pathway. If you have flower beds with sweet smelling flowers in place already, then all you need to do here is create the walkway. This can be fun as it will be a winding and meandering path through your garden. This will allow you to slowly stroll through your plants and flowers, taking the time to enjoy them leisurely with all of your senses.
